The
Buffalo Zoo will offer open tours to visitors this Sunday.
Two open
tours will be held on Sunday, March 22 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Tours will meet in the
Zoo’s entry plaza. Visitors do not need to register for the tours, which are
free with regular Zoo admission.
The tours
will be hosted by the Zoo’s trained docents, and feature some of the most
popular attractions such as Sea Lion Cove, M&T Bank Rainforest Falls, the
gorilla house. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn some interesting
facts and stories behind their favorite Zoo animals and exhibits.
Buffalo
Zoo docents are volunteers who go through a 14 week training course. They possess
thorough knowledge of the Zoo’s animal collection. The tours will offer
participants information about the Zoo’s animal collection that they might not
learn during a regular Zoo visit.
The Zoo
will offer a pilot series of “docent Sundays” tours on the third Sunday of the
next few months.
Anyone
who is interested in learning more about the tours, or the Zoo’s docent program
may contact the Zoo’s volunteer coordinator at (716) 995-6132.
