Wines in the Wild 2012 a Huge Success!


Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Zoo, the Pro Zoo Board and the Women’s Board are proud to announce that this year’s Wines in the Wild event, held on Wednesday, July 25, was a huge success…and the biggest ever! More than $100,000 was raised for the Zoo’s Adopt an Animal program, which helps to feed the Zoo’s 1,000 animal residents.

The Buffalo Zoo would like to extend special thanks to this year’s event sponsors,

More than 2,500 guests sampled food, beer and wine selections, as well as specialty services, from more than 50 of the area’s finest establishments. Other highlights of the evening included a basket auction, silent auction and animal visits.

This summer, you and your family can explore the Buffalo Zoo on Friday evenings! Have you ever wondered what the animals at the Zoo do during the evening hours? From August 3 through August 31, the Buffalo Zoo will offer extended hours on Friday nights. Choose to spend a beautiful summer evening with us, and explore Zoo grounds until 8:30 p.m.! (Gates close at 7:30 p.m.) On select dates (August 10 and 24), visitors can also participate in themed programming that will feature a variety of the Zoo’s animal residents. Aug 4  Zooper Saturday, presented by Wells Fargo Advisors
(featuring M&T Bank Rainforest Falls and the Horticultural Department of the Buffalo Zoo)
Join us for activities, including animal enrichments and keeper talks, featuring a variety of your favorite Rainforest residents. Staff from the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens will join us for some special rainforest themed crafting. Aug 18  Wild about Wellness Fair, sponsored by United Healthcare and presented by 97 Rock, Classic Hits 104.1 and WIVB-TV.
Learn how you can lead a healthier lifestyle as you visit with area health and wellness practitioners who specialize in physical training, alternative medicine, the health food industry and more! Aug 18  Tops Friendly Markets Shop for the Animals
Help fill the pantry for the Zoo’s animals this fall and winter! Choose from the items listed below to help keep our animals happy and healthy. It’s easy—while shopping at participating Tops locations on Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., please consider purchasing an extra gift for the Buffalo Zoo. Requested grocery items include: Kellogg’s Apple Jacks® and Froot Loops® or plain cereals; dog biscuits (all sizes); extracts and spices; peanut butter; plastic toys (Frisbees and balls); rawhide chews; and Purina® Whisker Lickin’s® cat treats (soft). The items may be purchased at the following Tops locations: 2101 Elmwood at Hinman; Sheridan Drive at Delaware Road (Tonawanda); Maple and Transit (Williamsville); and South Park (Hamburg). Drop your gift with a Zoo volunteer in the store lobby, and they’ll deliver it to the Zoo for you! BUFFALO, NY— This summer, you and your family can explore the Buffalo Zoo on Friday evenings in July and August!

Have you ever wondered what the animals at the Buffalo Zoo do during the evening hours? From July 6 through August 31, the Buffalo Zoo will offer extended hours on Friday nights as part of Ferocious Fridays, sponsored by First Niagara. Choose to spend a beautiful summer evening with us, and explore Zoo grounds until 8:30 p.m.!

Learn about the Buffalo Zoo's endangered Indian rhino, and then be sure to stop in to say hello to the animals at the Delta Sonic Heritage Farm! The event runs from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and is free with Zoo admission. The rhino will be featured from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., and the Delta Sonic Heritage Farm animals will be featured from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Please call the Events Coordinator at (716) 995-6133.

7, 8  Report Card Weekend
Celebrate your achievements, and bring your latest report card to receive FREE Zoo admission with a paid adult. Valid for children ages 14 or younger. No specific grades or averages are required. For more information, please call (716) 837-3900.

21, 22 Tops Friendly Markets Bonus Card Days
Attention Tops shoppers…it's time for the Buffalo Zoo's annual Tops Friendly Markets Bonus Card Weekend! Visitors who bring their Tops Bonus Card to the Zoo during this special promotion will receive one FREE child's admission with each PAID adult admission. If you are not currently a Tops Bonus Card member, stop by your neighborhood location and sign up today! It's free, it's easy and you'll save every time you shop at Tops. Don't forget to stop by the Tops' EcoStation during your visit to the Zoo and say hello to a variety of your animal friends. The Zoo would like to thank Tops for their continued support!

25 Wines in the Wild (Zoo closes early – gates at 2:00 p.m., grounds at 3:00 p.m.)
On Wednesday, July 25, the ProZoo Board and the Women's Board will host the annual Wines in the Wild event at the Buffalo Zoo. For only $40 pre-sale (sold through July 24) or $50 the day of the event (this event usually sells out in June with no tickets remaining for at door sales), your ticket includes a variety of food and dessert items, wines and beers, as well as some great specialty services vendors. 

Live music and visits from some of your favorite animal ambassadors will highlight the evening. Enjoy a balmy summer evening in one of the most unique environments around as you try your luck at our fantastic basket and silent auctions, or the ever-popular Duck Races. This event takes place from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., rain or shine. Guests MUST BE at least 21 years or older.

The more the merrier, so bring your friends and neighbors to enjoy this wonderful, casual evening to benefit the Zoo's Adopt an Animal program.
